BYD has launched its new entry-level electric hatchback, Seagull, at the 2023 Shanghai Auto Show. Built on the company's e-platform 3.0, the Seagull is part of BYD's ocean series and it will be positioned below the BYD Dolphin hatchback as an entry-level electric car. The Seagull is priced between 11,400 -13,900 USD (approximately Nrs 14.95 lakh - Nrs 18.23 lakh) in China.
The BYD Seagull is powered by a 55 kW (75 hp) electric motor with a top speed of 130 km/h. It features two different battery options: a 30 kWh BYD LFP battery for a 305 km CLTC range and a 38 kWh BYD LPF battery for a 405 km CLTC range. Both battery options are capable of DC fast charging, allowing the electric hatchback to recharge up to 80% in just 30 minutes.
In terms of dimensions, the BYD Seagull is 37800mm long,1715mm wide and 1540mm high, with a wheelbase of 2500mm. The Seagull gets a short bonnet, ultra-slim overhangs at each end, and an upright rear end. Inside, it gets a downsized version of the Dolphin's cockpit design, headlined by a 12.8-inch central touchscreen with a swivel function and a fully digital 5.0-inch gauge cluster. The dash is complete with a flat bottom steering wheel and a wireless charging pad.
The BYD Seagull mainly competes with SAIC-GM-Wuling joint venture's Bingo electric hatchback which has a 333 km range and a 50 kW motor. The Wuling Bingo has a length, width and height of 3,950 mm, 1,708 mm and 1,580 mm, with a wheelbase of 2,560 mm.
